An all-volunteer organization, Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts (PSHA) is a non-profit California Corporation whose members donate their time and talents to produce the 2019 Pasadena Showcase House of Design for the 55th consecutive year. Founded in 1948, and formerly known as The Pasadena Junior Philharmonic Committee, they adopted the Pasadena Showcase House of Design as their benefit in 1965.
But corporate facts don’t begin to give a clear picture. About 80 members with a myriad of backgrounds accomplish the Herculean feat of producing the Showcase House with many working fulltime at their Showcase “jobs”. Their commitment is legendary. The organization is also strongly supported by over 200 Intermediate and Associate members who provide financial support and volunteer their time at the Showcase House.
The members of PSHA are united by their belief in the power and beauty of music. Their collective goal is to provide funding to programs that benefit the community through diverse music programs namely Music Mobile, Youth Concert, Scholarships for young musicians, and awarding gifts and grants.
The devotion and hard work of PSHA’s volunteers have enriched the lives of countless people and brought a legacy to the community.
Beautiful Descanso Gardens was the setting where The Hilltop House (or the Boddy House) was the 2019 Showcase House of Design. E Manchester Boddy was the original owner of the 360 acres. He was a lover of horticulture and was instrumental in bringing the camelia to Southern California. James D Dolena, known as the “architect to the stars,” was commissioned to design the home. The Hollywood Regency style lends a perfect balance with home living in the outdoors. Descanso Gardens uses the house today for many social and community activities.
